Takanori, the childhood 3rd party to Haruto and Asahi, the admirer from afar since the days of Union. Until he meets Asahi again, his behavior hardly felt noticeable. However, if you like a well-grounded plot and a great character cast, this anime probably isn't for you.
Is the main character, now a high schooler, written in a way to like an elementary schooler? My impression of the first episode made me realize how the creators wanted me to feel something for the characters. Asahi—one of old 'Subaru' party members, and his childhood friend who should have died six years ago. Is this a bad Isekai? More importantly, it centers around those characters' relationships and interpersonal love drama. He has this free-spirited personality which is difficult to understand. The characters are just bland and by episode 5 I really see no attachment to them at all and gives me absolutely no reason for me to care about them.

However, one day when a player named Asahi got a game over, she also died in the real world at the same time. This show has no individuality and it will assuredly be remembered by no one. As for the characters, they are rather bland Haruto , boring Asahi , or downright infuryating Takanori. But sadly, I've seen anime far worse than this, so I can't exactly call it the worst.
Remember when in AnoHana the relationship between all the characters was actually the focus of the story, and their development was actually a big part in all of it? Characters: Pros: -Bustier Nishikino Maki. While the art in this show is bad the animation is actually was pretty okay than again the show uses crappy cgi on the monsters. It's a total mess, there's no weight to anything, and the characters are absolutely laughable. Mystery elements are thrown from here and there like it's a middle age stoning in progress. Of all the anime I've ever watched, I've never seen such a lifeless, copy and paste show like this.
I don't mean to throw accusations around, but that producer that got arrested for trying to fuck a teen. Seriously, there was already a love square between Takanori, Satsuki, Haruto and Asahi, we didn't need another angle there. The problem is, that this reminds me of AnoHana done badly. Just a character main used to service the plot pointers. By technical quality alone, it looks mildly creative with the fantasy elements like the basic-looking towns and landscapes. . The characters deigns in this show are nothing but character rejects from Anohana that the director decided to scrap during the production of Anohana back in 2011.
Honestly, had I not watched any game anime ever nor watched Anohana, I think Shichisei no Subaru would be relatively enjoyable and maybe great. It's value is that it's a 12 episode anime show, and that's all. You tried Takanori, you tried, no you could have tried harder. Congratulations, you just wasted money to play for 30 minutes before having your account deleted. The American boi that seems just there to be the Ban Seven Deadly Sins reference of the group.
Six years later, highschooler Haruto logged into the new 'Reunion' and reunited with a single girl. And yep, he never made or makes a move either but wow is he defensive and clingy to the point of creepiness. You can even hear their expressions of feelings in their voice tone that connects with their dialogues. He looked at his Asuna pillow, and his eyes began to sparkle. Even the bestiary in this series are hardly inspiring.
On the flip side, if you do have enough time, I definitely recommend you take a look at this anime. Character not being able to log out. Is she a ghost of this electronic world? Not to mention, Menma, oh I'm sorry, Asahi clings into Haruto like a damn human magnet, which mentions why its a 100% carbon copy-and-pasted formula. Those two actually made for some good scenes, with Satsuki being the only source of the scenes that were actually good in this anime like their fight against two of the major guilds. Is she a digital ghost, or. Shichisei no Subaru is not even close to being as moving or sad, but it has some value in it all the same.
